Mustangs Earn Narrow Victory Over Oaks

Carneys Point, N.J. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs defeated the Salem County Community College Oaks 69-68 on Thursday, Jan. 13.

The Mustangs traveled to Carneys Point to take on the Oaks, a worthy opponent averaging 85 points per game entering the contest. The visiting Mustangs got off to a slow start which put them at a 28-30 deficit by half time.

However, the Mustangs did not allow the Oaks to run away with the game, keeping the score close throughout.

“We were really sluggish for most of the game,” said Mustangs Head Coach Denny Surovec. “Salem did a good job of keeping us off-balance for most of the night, but we were able to make some plays when we needed them.”

Dan Drennen led the Mustangs with 14 points and three blocks, followed by Joshua Ingram and Maleek Singleton, who notched 10 points each. Dante Selby contributed to the victory with nine points and eight rebounds, while teammate Ryan Getson earned four blocks.

The narrow victory is the Mustangs’ 15th win of the season, putting the team’s overall record at 15-3. In the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference, the Mustangs are 8-2.
