Mustangs Trounce Dukes 100-59

Blue Bell, Pa. – In non-conference action, the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs defeated the Cumberland County College Dukes 100-59 Monday.

The Mustangs opened up scoring with a foul shot by Marcus Langley, but the team was unable to build momentum in the first half. Both teams seemed flat, scoring only 23 points collectively by the 10:00 mark. The Mustangs maintained a slight lead over the Dukes, but could not break away. Scoring started to pick up towards the end of the half, giving the Mustangs a 42-35 lead going into the second.

The Mustangs turned up the heat in the second half of the game. With a Dukes starter ejected early into play, the Mustangs rallied to pull away from their opponent. The Mustangs were up by 15 points with 9:00 left on the clock. Four minutes later, they were up by 30; two minutes after that they were up by 40. The Mustangs went on a scoring binge in the tail end of the second half to ultimately win by 41 points, beating the Dukes 100-59.

All thirteen Mustangs athletes scored in the win, with five scoring in the double digits; Kenny Walton put away 15 points, Justin Nixon scored 13, Marcus Langley had 12 and Bryant Baylis and Xavier Shaw rounded out the top five with 11 points each. Langley also racked up nine rebounds.

The Mustangs’ record is now 11-3 overall, 7-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC). This is the last game for the Mustangs until January 6, 2011 when they face off against DeVry University.
