Recap: Brownlowe Nearly Hits For Cycle in 13-3 Win

WAYNE, Pa. - Will Brownlowe fell just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle and was one of three Mustangs with a pair of RBI as the Mustangs pounded the Trojans of Valley Forge Military College, 13-3, on Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Markovic struck out 10 while Tommy Gallagher and Nick Purshock knocked in two runs apiece as the Mustangs won their second straight game.

Brownlowe opened the game with a leadoff double and moved to third on a fielder's choice. Gallagher plated Brownlowe with a single to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Montgomery added a solo run in the second when Christian Fernandez doubled home Nick Mikesic, who drew a leadoff walk.

Montgomery broke open the game with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Timely two-out hitting was key in the fourth as Zach Zappo and Gallagher plated runs with back-to-back doubles. Tyler Markovic and Jason Smith followed with back-to-back singles as the Mustangs sent nine batters to the plate.

Brownlowe's two-run single with the bases loaded highlighted the fifth as eight more batters tested VFMC pitching. The Trojans got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in their half of the fifth and added a solo run in the sixth.

Brownlowe's triple opened the seventh as the Mustangs added three more runs thanks in part to back-to-back singles by Zappo and Gallagher.

The team racked up 19 hits on the day as every Mustangs' batter drove in at least one run in the game. Brownlowe finished the game 3 for 5 with three runs scored. Zappo and Gallagher scored two runs apiece while going 3 for 5 from the plate. And Markovic, Fernandez, Purshock and Justin Pizarro chipped in two hits apiece.

Markovic allowed one earned run and three hits. He walked two.

The Mustangs travel to Bucks County Community College on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 3:30 pm against the Centurions.
