Recap: Pizarro’s Sac Fly Lifts Mustangs Past Centurions

NEWTOWN, Pa. - Justin Pizarro's sacrifice fly broke a seventh-inning tie and lifted the Mustangs over the Centurions, 4-3, in a Wednesday afternoon game at Bucks County Community College.

Zach Zappo knocked in a run and scored two thanks to a pair of extra-base hits as the visitors wrapped up a season sweep of the Centurions.

The go-ahead run was set up when Montgomery's Christian Fernandez reached base on an error to open the seventh. Pitcher Nick Mikesic singled Fernandez to third before Pizarro plated the decisive run.

Mikesic, who struck out eight and picked off a baserunner, closed out the game with a near-perfect final two frames, allowing only a one-out walk in the eighth.

Bucks opened the scoring in the home third, scoring a pair of runs courtesy of a two-out triple and single. Montgomery wasted no time striking back in the top of the fourth, led by back-to-back doubles by Zappo and Will Brownlowe.

After Bucks grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fifth, Montgomery responded with the equalizer in the sixth as Zappo scored after opening the inning with a leadoff triple.

All told, Mikesic scattered three runs on five hits over nine innings. He walked three and was charged with a balk.

The Mustangs close out the 2016 season at home on Sunday, May 1, with a doubleheader against Lehigh University JV. First-game first pitch scheduled for 12 pm.
