Walkoff Sacrifice Fly for Mustangs Allows them to Split Double Header

Montgomery played a double header Saturday against Valley Forge Military College and neither game dissapointed.

Valley Forge jumped to a 4-0 lead early in the 4th inning, thanks to a three run home run by Bryen Figueroa. However, the Mustangs would not be discourged and slowly chipped away at the Trojans' lead. RBI's by both Brownlowe and Bernhard added 3 runs in the 6th. Finally, in the bottom of the 7th, with the game on the line and two outs already for the Mustangs, Aaron Benner brought in Ron Fausnaught for the game tying run. Montgomery was stopped before they could take the lead, so the game was headed to extra innings. With all the momentum, the Mustangs quickly put three runners on base. With one out and the bases loaded, Noah Ruiz stepped up to the plate and launched a ball into center field. The ball would be caught, but it was just far enough for Matt Ahmad to tag up and bring in the game winning run.

In game two, the Mustangs found themselves in a similar situation when Valley Forge grabbed 7 runs in the first inning. The Mustangs would slowly chip away at this lead as well, with four different Mustangs grabbing RBIs. Despite giving up 7 runs in the first inning, pitcher Aaron Benner would only allow 7 earned runs in 6 innings and added 5 strikeouts. Even though the mustangs got the score to 8-6 in the 5th inning, they were unable to catch up to Valley Forge's fast start and would lose the game 8-6.

Montgomery moves to 6-8 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday, when they play at Camden County College.
