7th Inning Comeback Leads Baseball Past Luzerne

The Mustangs showed up with their backs against the wall in a must-win game on Thursday.

Baseball traveled to Luzerne County Community College on Thursday, needing a win in order to have a chance at winning a share of the EPAC title. The game started slowly, with each team grabbing one run in the first two innings. However, Luzerne picked up the pace in the third, racking up 8 more runs and taking a commanding 9-1 lead.

For most teams, the game would be over right there. However, as anyone who follows Montgomery baseball would know, the Mustangs never give up. Montgomery immediately started to chip away at the lead in the 4th, with Ron Fausnaught's RBI single. Then, the Mustangs really got going with a 5 run 6th inning, thanks to a few errors from Luzerne, who added one more to their lead in the bottom of that inning. Then, with Luzerne holding a 10-7 lead, Ron Fausnaught grabbed his third RBI of the game, Will Brownlowe added two more on a single and Noah Ruiz grabbed an RBI as the Mustamgs took an 11-10 lead in the 7th, their first lead of the game!

Luke Deleo came into pitch in the bottom of the seventh, which should send fear into the hearts of any opposing team. He continued his dominant streak, only allowing one hit and no earned runs. He also scored the final run of the game in the 9th, to cap off the 12-10 win for the Mustangs.

Baseball returns to action Saturday, when they take on Bucks County at 12, in an attempt to keep their EPAC Championship and playoff hopes alive.
