Mustang Comeback Falls Just Short in Regional Playoff

Thanks to some solid play throughout the season, the Montgomery baseball team was able to qualify for NJCAA Region XIX Playoffs as the 9th seed. This meant that they would participate in a play-in game against Ocean County College on Friday. The Vikings defeated the Mustangs in a doubleheader earlier in the season, but the Mustangs were looking forward to another attempt at revenge.

Ocean started the game off very strong, taking a six nothing lead in the second inning. However, the Mustangs were not discouraged at all. Sophomore pitcher Luke Deleo (Pope John Paul) came in to pitch in the third and held the Vikings to only three hits the rest of the game.

The Mustangs began their comeback in the fifth, finally getting on the board. After that first run, the Mustangs came alive. Elias Gehman (FR, Christopher Dock) became the fourth Mustang this season to hit a homerun, thanks to a three run shot to left field.

The Mustangs would grab one mor run in the seventh before forcing the Vikings to put their closer in the game. Unfortunately, the scoring would stop there. Neither team would score another run the rest of the game and the Mustangs would fall in a play-in game for the second year in a row.

Baseball saw huge improvements this season and, despite the loss, the Mustangs felt confident that they put together a great season.
