Montgomery County Community College Athletics Announces Baseball Mustangs of the Week!

Amidst an action packed season, we at Mustangs Athletics would like to recognize our outstanding student athletes throughout this first half of the baseball season!

 

Week 1 Tony Xanthopoulos:

3/18 Penn State Scranton 4-3 Win

3/20 Eastern University (JV) 6-7 Loss

Tony was nearly immaculate in his first start of the season against Penn State Scranton. Through 5 innings pitched, Xanthopoulos only allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 8 of his opponents earning himself his first Win of the season!

Tony's success continued at the plate where he had a .333 batting average and a .500 on base percentage throughout the week. Tony two hits knocked in 3 runs to help ensure the Mustangs first victory of the season!

 

Week 2 Connor English:

3/22 Salem Community College 3-12 Loss

4/2 Delaware County Community College 21-2 Win & 16-0 Win

Connor's bat propelled Mustangs Baseball into week 2! In 16 plate appearances, English had 8 hits and 2 walks earning a .571 batting average and a .600 on base percentage. In each game throughout the week, Connor crushed a double and during the second game against Delaware County Community College, he launched a GRAND SLAM deep to left field scoring 4 runs in the first inning! These accolades amounted to 10 RBIs, 7 of which came during the Mustang's 16-0 win over the Phantoms.

Connor was also spectacular on the mound! Throughout 8 innings over the course of the week English only allowed 1 earned run for an impressive 1.125 ERA and struck out 9 batters who dared to approach the plate!

 

Week 3 Morgan D'Amico:

4/5 Middlesex County College 3-4 Loss

4/10 Atlantic Cape Community College 13-15 Loss & 10-21 Loss

In this week's three hard fought losses, Morgan was a shining gem throughout the week. In his 10 plate appearances D'Amico accumulated 3 walks and 3 hits including a stand-up double! This led to a .429 batting average as well as a .600 on base percentage. Morgan paved the way for a total of 8 runs, 4 of which he ushered in as RBIs while the final four he scored himself! While D'Amico shined at the plate, he was also stellar on the bump! In only four innings pitched Morgan struck out 6 batters!

 

Week 4 Jacob Phillips:

4/12 Lehigh Carbon Community College 16-2 Win

4/14 Middlesex County College 4-15 Loss

Jake's bat exploded onto the scene of week 4! Phillips batted .571 with 4 hits and 4 RBIs including two doubles across the two games in week 4.

 

Week 5 Marquise Wood:

4/21 Chestnut Hill College (JV) 6-5 Win

4/23 Northampton Community College 3-17 Loss & 3-12 Loss

After great performances all season long, Marquise has finally earned the title of Mustang of the Week! Wood excelled across all aspects of the field. At the plate, Marquise had a .600 batting average with 3 hits, and a .800 on base percentage with 5 walks. In the Mustang's game against Chestnut Hill College (JV) Wood demolished a two-run home run in the 4th inning to take a commanding lead over the Griffins. Then in the 6th inning after a late game come back the Griffins had tied the game until Marquise batted in the go ahead run! Wood was also a huge threat on the bases, stealing 2 bases against Northampton.

After giving the Mustangs the lead against Chestnut Hill, Marquise went to the mound and earned his first save of the season! During his 1 inning, he struck out two batters and only allowed a single run to ensure the Mustang's victory! Finally, Marquise was a vacuum in center field, tracking down 11 outs during the week's three games!
