Game Recap: Big 2nd-Half Keys Big Win Vs. Bucks

NEWTOWN, Pa. - A dominant second-half performance keyed Montgomery's men's team to a 102-72 win over the Centurions of Bucks County Community College on Thursday, lifting the Mustangs into 6th place in Region XIX.

Six Mustangs' players scored in double figures as the visiting team exploded for 53 second-half points in a game they led 49-43 at halftime.

"We were a little sluggish in the first half, but the guys turned it on in the second," Head Men's Basketball Coach Denny Surovec said.

Sophomore forward Ryan Casper and freshman guard Kevin Woods paced the attack with 14 points apiece. Woods also dished out 5 assists.

All told, 11 players scored for the Mustangs. Freshmen Nicko Balis and Harris Griffin chipped in 13 apiece. Freshman Trevino Hall added 11 points, while freshman Vince Casciello scored 11 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and added 4 steals.

"This was a good game to get everyone involved," Surovec said.

A look inside the numbers shows that while Montgomery shot just under 50 percent from the field (42-of-88, 47.7%), the Mustangs made up for it from the charity stripe -- converting 14 of 19 opportunities. The Mustangs also held the advantage on the glass as well, out-rebounding Bucks by a 53-40 count. Chris Uhrich led the Mustangs with 7 rebounds.

Bucks attempted 27 shots from beyond the arc en route to a 35.6 percent showing from the field. The Centurions shot 55 percent from the foul line (11 of 20).

Bucks placed four of its players in double figures, including guard Dylan Shorr, who led all scorers with 20 points. Shorr also earned the game's only technical foul.

The men's team is back at home Saturday for a game against the Jaguars of Johnson College. Tip-off is 1 pm.
