Game Recap: Mustangs Drop Opener At RCGC

Head Men's Basketball coach Denny Surovec watched as his Mustangs and the Roadrunners of Rowan College at Gloucester County put up a combined 108 points in the first half. But in the end the Mustangs came up short in a 116-101 defeat in the season opener.

"We made too many mistakes tonight, and Gloucester seemed to take advantage of all of them," said Surovec, now in his sixth season at the helm. "We had a rough end to the first half and dug ourselves a big hole."

Montgomery trailed 60-48 at halftime after Gloucester outscored the Mustangs 18-3 over the last 4:30 of the first half.

Jared Stanley was the Mustangs' leading scorer with 25 points and 4 steals. Chris Uhrich added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Kanen Horton dropped 16 points and Nick Demeno chipped in 14 points. Ryan Casper came up with 10 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Kevin Woods was credited with 5 assists along with 8 points.

Gloucester struggled converting at the line, going 19-for-32 on the night, while Montgomery committed 27 turnovers as team.

"Our guys showed a lot of fight, though, and continued to compete all night," Surovec said.

The Mustangs travel to Lehigh Carbon Community College for an 8 pm tip-off on Tuesday.
