Game Recap: Mustangs Top Spartans For 4th Straight Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mustangs men's basketball team ran its early-season win streak to four thanks to an 87-59 victory at Northampton Community College on Tuesday evening.

Head Men's Basketball coach Denny Surovec continued to get strong play from his bench, as freshman Trevino Hall led the Mustangs with 15 points. In fact, Hall ignited a 20-0 run which put Montgomery ahead early.

"After another sluggish start, the guys did a good job getting back on track," Surovec said. "Vino gave us a huge spark to start our big run."

The Spartans led 8-3 early before Hall came off the bench to score 6 straight points -- 2 lay-ups and a pair of free throws. And suddenly, the Mustangs led 23-8. By halftime, Montgomery increased its lead  to 23 as it went into the locker room comfortably ahead, 56-33.

The Mustangs shot just over 51 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range, compared to 35 and 33 percent in those same categories for the Spartans. Northampton held a 31-28 edge in rebounds, while both teams were better than 66 percent from the foul line.

No starter scored more than 7 points for the Mustangs. Among the leaders on the night were Shane Isett (14 pts.), Vince Casciello (11 pts.), and Nick Demeno (10 pts.). Chris Uhrich led the way with 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, while Kevin Woods dished out 4 assists.

"We were really able to use our depth and get everyone involved," Surovec said. "Our intensity was great, and this was by far the best team basketball we've played this season."

The Mustangs will look to make it five in a row on Saturday afternoon when they host Luzerne County Community College in a 3 PM tip-off.
