Game Recap: Threes Rain As Mustangs Top Trailblazers For 5th Straight

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Sophomore guard Nick Demeno drained four first-half three pointers to give the Mustangs an early boost Saturday as Montgomery won its fifth straight, 103-72, over the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College.

Montgomery was on fire from behind the arc as they drained 14 three pointers compared to the Trailblazers' four.

Right out of the gate, the Mustangs started raining down threes en route to an early 19-9 advantage. The Mustangs led by 28 at halftime, 68-40.

Demeno's 15 points was second only to freshman forward/center Vince Casciello, who finished with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman guard/forward Louis Dennis led the Mustangs with 10 rebounds.

"Nick's shooting got us going, and Lou did a great job controlling the boards," said Head Men's Basketball coach Denny Surovec. "Vince was big for us today, too, as he had his best game of the year by far."

The Mustangs shot over 53 percent from the floor, nearly 54 perecent from behind the arc and over 63 percent from the foul line. The Trailblazers, meanwhile, struggled considerably with their field-goal shooting. Luzerne did, however, connect on 26 of its 35 free-throw opportunities. The Mustangs out-rebounded the Trailblazers, 38-20.

Sophomore Chris Uhrich and freshman Matt Krewson chipped in 11 points apiece for the Mustangs, while freshman Trevino Hall dished out 7 assists.

"We continue to get off to slow starts, but the guys bounced back," Surovec said. "We are improving."

The Mustangs are back on the road Tuesday evening with an 8 PM tip-off against the Colonials of Community College of Philadelphia.
