Game Recap: Freshmen Trio Leads Men's Team Past Bucks

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Head Men's Basketball Coach Denny Surovec got contributions from all 13 of his players as his Mustangs topped the  Centurions of Bucks County Community College, 95-82, in a Region XIX contest Tuesday evening.

Montgomery placed three players in double figures while improving to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

The freshmen trio of Kevin Woods, Matt Krewson and Trevino Hall paced the offensive attack as the Mustangs raced out to a 32-10 lead. Woods led the team with 15 points and added 4 assists. Krewson scored 14 points and Hall chipped in 11 points to go along with 7 rebounds.

The Mustangs went into halftime with a comfortable 52-34 advantage, but a winless Bucks squad did not simply roll over. Bucks was especially good from the foul line, converting 63.9 percent of its opportunities (23-of-36). In fact, the Centurions outscored the Mustangs in the second half.

"We got off to a good start tonight, but became a little too complacent throughout the game," Surovec said afterward.

The complacency the coach spoke of was evident in Bucks' 48-43 showing on the scoresheet for the second half. Thankfully, the Mustangs held off a late rally by the Centurions.

Montgomery shot 40.4 percent (36-of-89) from the field, including 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from behind the arc. The Mustangs converted 50 percent of their free-throw chances.

Montgomery out-rebounded Bucks, 50-41, as freshman forward/center Vince Casciello continued his impressive season, grabbing 14 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Tyreek Magruder and Ryan Brennan chipped in 9 points apiece. Louis Dennis added 7 rebounds, while Jared Stanley dished out 5 assists.

"If we're going to contend for a region title, we need to do a better job of staying on task," Surovec said.

The Mustangs are back on the road Saturday with a game at Johnson College.
