Tough End: Men's Team Edged 69-66 In Rd. 1 Playoff

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Guard Kevin Woods' half-court shot as time expired was off-target as Montgomery's men's basketball team fell to Lehigh Carbon Community College, 69-66, in a first-round NJCAA Region 19 playoff game on Saturday.

The Mustangs trailed from the start, but as was their trademark all season, they never stopped battling. In fact, they overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to pull even at 66-66 with under 20 seconds remaining.

After the Cougars converted one of two free throws for a 67-66 lead, Montgomery had the ball and was in position for a victory with a decisive  game-ending possession with 12 seconds left on the clock.

Matt Krewson inbounded the ball and pushed up court with Woods. Krewson found Trevino Hall in the lane, but Hall was unable to get off a shot against Lehigh Carbon's interior defense as the loose rolled toward the baseline. A diving Ryan Casper managed to keep the ball in play but it unfortunately landed in the hands of the Cougars' Kyle Leonard with 0.5 showing on the clock.

Leonard was fouled and then converted his free throws. Tyreek Magruder inbounded the ball by tossing it to Woods at half court.

The Mustangs trailed 39-30 at the half and missed some key foul shots in the second half.

Montgomery finished 14-11 overall on the season, with a Region 19 record of 14-9.
