Men's Basketball Holds Off Valley Forge Military College

After starting their five game road stretch with a 2-0 record, the men's basketball team was excited about the opportunity to take on Valley Forge Military College on Tuesday. The 0-4 Trojans seemed like an easy target for the Mustangs, who were looking to extend their winning streak. However, the game would prove to be a bit different than what most were expecting.

Valley Forge came out with a vengence and gave the Mustangs a battle in the first half. The lead changed a few times, but Montgomery would eventually build a small lead heading into halftime.

The first half was a wake up call for the Mustangs. They pulled ahead in the second half thanks to hot shooting from Ryan Black (FR, Hatboro Horsham), who finished with 23 points. At one point, the Mustangs had built a 15-point lead and looked determined to finish the Trojans off.

But Valley Forge would not be denied the opportunity to finally get their first win (at home no less). They stormed back, feeding off of the energy from the crowd, and eventually took a small lead. The Mustangs seemed to underestimate the Trojans, but once they lost the lead, they found their fire again. A few clutch shots gave the Mustangs a 5-point lead under one minute to go, a lead that would eventually end in a 3-point win for the Mustangs, 88-85.

Cameron Reid (FR, Spring-Ford) was Mr. Clutch on Tuesday, coming up with big baskets exactly when the Mustangs needed them. He led the team with 24 points. Reid and Seth Compas (FR, Wissahickon) have formed some great synergy with each other this season. It should be exciting to see the freshman duo as they continue to grow.

Men's basketball will travel to Delaware Technical Community College on Thursday for game number four of their five game road stretch.
