Spartans Knock Mustangs Out of Playoffs in Semifinal

In their first season of intercollegiate competition since 1989, the Montgomery County Community College men’s soccer team advanced to tournament play. Going 10-5 overall this season and 9-5 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference, the 3 seeded Mustangs entered the EPCC playoff semifinal game against the 2 seeded Northampton Community College Spartans Saturday.

The Spartans took control of the first half scoring in the 10th, 28th, and 30th minutes of the game. Down by three going into the second half the Mustangs struggled to close the gap but were unable to come out from under the Spartans. The Mustangs posted a strong effort to the very end and broke the Spartans shut out with a goal from freshman Tom Dempsey (Methacton) with only three minutes remaining in the game.

However, the goal was too little too late for the Mustangs. Winning the game with a final score of 3-1, the Spartans now advance to the EPCC Championship game against the 4 seeded Harrisburg Area Community College Hawks, who upset the top seeded Bucks County Community College Centurians in semifinal play.
