Game Recap: Tough Loss for Mustangs

Thursday the Mustangs men's soccer team hosted the Cougars of Lehigh Carbon Community College in NJCAA Region 19 EPAC play.

The Mustangs dominated the opening eight minutes of the game, rallying for three scoring chances in a row, including a penalty kick. However, all three attempts were unsuccessful. Play continued in the Mustangs' favor with an additional eight chances, none of which resulted in a goal.

Frustrated, the Mustangs started taking bigger risks, allowing for a few break-away opportunities for the Cougars. With just under five minutes to go in the first half, the Cougars were able to take a 1-0 lead off their third shot of the contest.

Going into the second half, Mustangs Head Coach Obed Arango anticipated a game-tying goal from his team as their domination over the Cougars continued. The Mustangs racked up five corner kicks and four shots on goal in the first 15 minutes, but remained scoreless.

Coach Arango changed up the lineup to generate even more offensive pressure, but even with the increased attacking force, ultimately the team was unable to finish the job.

"The Mustangs displayed beautiful soccer despite this defeat," commented Coach Arango. "The Cougars are a good team, hard to open and effective in the counterattack. The score does not reflect the Mustangs' performance and I am proud of how they played today."

The Mustangs showed a combative spirit, dominating possession for much of the game according to Coach Arango.

"We showed control and strong possession and we are on the road to continue pursuing excellence in our approach. Already, this team is showing extraordinary commitment and growth in understanding. The best is yet to come."

The Mustangs have a week to shake off the 0-1 loss, as they take on the Bucks County Community College Centurions at home on Thursday Sept. 12. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
