Men's Soccer Makes Playoffs with 8-0 Win over Hawks

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's soccer team traveled to play the Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College in hopes of earning a win to secure a spot in the NJCAA Region 19 playoffs.

Early in the season, the Mustangs defeated the Hawks 3-0, however the game was not won without resistance from the Hawks. With both teams improving since their first meeting, the Mustangs expected steep competition.

However, from the opening whistle the Mustangs leading scorer, freshman forward Joseph Lasher, took on the Hawks full force, scoring in the 11th and 18th minutes of play. The quick jolt shocked the Hawks and invigorated the Mustangs, swinging the game in the Mustangs' favor. Before the end of the half, the Mustangs were able to to put away three more goals, two by Sean Treacy and one from Anthony Ky.

Down 0-5, the Hawks hoped to make a comeback, but the Mustangs continued their domination into the second half. With the victory at hand, Mustangs Head Coach Obed Arango instructed his team to respect the rival Hawks and enliven a competitive spirit on the field. The Mustangs second string players continued to put pressure on the Hawks as the team notched three more goals by the 90:00 mark.

Goal earners in the second half included freshmen Jaron Kicinski, Moisei Scutaru and Olatunde Oladipo.

"One step at a time, we are reaching each of our goals this season," commented Coach Arango. "They guys are focused on their studies, training strong and developing as a team. Now that we have made playoffs, our goal is to keep the pace and try to go as far as possible. For now we are enjoying our victories on and off the field and I feel proud that we are representing Montgomery County Community College with honor. We are Mustangs."
