Game Recap: Perez Delivers Winner In Hard-Fought 2-1 Win Over LCCC

Uri Perez's unassisted goal in the 80th minute was the difference as the Mustangs Men's Soccer team edged Lehigh Carbon Community College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6th.

Goalkeeper Andrew Toro was stellar in his debut in leading the Mustangs to their second straight home triumph.

Playing in sun-drenched and steamy conditions, the Mustangs and Cougars traded scoring opportunities in the first half but neither was able to find the net as the match remained scoreless at the half.

Lehigh Carbon took a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute thanks to a goal by Matt Waterman. The lead was short-lived however, as the Mustangs answered a minute later with forward David Massanga notching his 3rd goal of the season. Team co-captain and midfielder Jeremiah Garcia delivered a perfect cross to the front of the net to set up Massanga for the equalizer.

The see-saw affair waged on with both teams missing wide-open nets and hitting goal posts.

Then, with 10 minutes remaining in the match, Perez scored the decisive goal during a scramble in front of the Cougars' net.

The Mustangs are 2-1 on the season. Next up: a match with Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday, Sept. 9th.
