Game Recap: Massanga, Toro Lead The Way In 2-1 Win vs. DCCC

Forward David Massanga's goal in the 85th minute lifted the Mustangs Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 win over the Delaware County Community College Phantoms on Thursday. The Mustangs improved to 3-1-1 overall and remain unbeaten at home this season.

Massanga's goal was a nifty one and came courtesy of a one-touch pass from Cristofer Anton within the 18. The goal came three minutes after midfielder Wilson Gonzalez missed wide on a shot at an open Phantoms' net.

In a game which featured terrific goalkeeping on both ends, the Mustangs controlled play for much of the game, especially in the second half.

With the game even at 1-1, the Mustangs had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 50th minute when they were awarded a penalty shot after midfielder Arturs Olnovs was taken down in the box. However, Felipe Silva's attempt sailed high and wide.

Goalkeeper Andrew Toro continued his sensational play, making key saves in the 60th and 64th minutes, the latter in which a leaping Toro tipped the ball up and over the net.

As was the case in their previous two games the Mustangs surrendered the first goal, with Delaware County's Vernon Dryer firing a shot past Toro in the 14th minute to give the Phantoms the early lead. Ten minutes later, Silva made a nice run from his side of midfield down near the Phantoms' net only to see his shot ding off the post.

Then, in the 41st minute, Gonzalez evened the score with a beautiful header off a cross from midfielder Tenzin Wangyal.

The team is back in action on Saturday at 11 am with a road match at Community College of Philadelphia.
