Recap: McVeagh Nets Hat Trick As Mustangs Blank DCCC Phantoms

MEDIA, Pa. - Igor McVeagh's hat trick was the difference as Montgomery's men's soccer team completed a season sweep of Delaware County Community College with a 3-0 win in Region XIX soccer action Monday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Hunter Standnycki made six saves in recording his third shutout of the season as the Mustangs improved to 9-2 in both region and EPAC play, with two games remaining in the season.

"Igor was in the zone today, and as a team collectively we are getting good effort," said Head Coach Tom Haney. "There's still plenty of soccer to play and hopefully we can end the regular season on a winning note."

McVeagh opened the scoring in the 17th minute, firing a penalty kick past Phantoms goalkeeper Bryam Gordillo. About four minutes later, McVeagh struck again thanks to a feed from Geoffrey Horrocks.

McVeagh's third goal came in the 56th minute courtesy of an assist credited to Mawulome Logoh.

Montgomery had chances for more but couldn't add to its lead. All told, the Mustangs had 22 shots on goal.

Monday's win marked the fifth shutout of the season and third in as many games for the Mustangs.

The men's team is back on the home pitch to close out the season, beginning with Thursday's 3:30 pm match vs. Lehigh Carbon Community College. And on Saturday, sophomore/second-year players will be honored before the Mustangs battle the Vikings of Ocean County College.
