Game Recap: Women's Basketball Suffers Two-Point Loss

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs lost a hard-fought battle to the Cougars of Camden County College Thursday.

The game was a back and forth battle between the Mustangs and the Cougars. The Cougars kept the score close throughout much of the first half, but allowed the Mustangs to pull away with a slight lead towards the end.

With a number of strong drives, the Mustangs sent the Cougars into the locker room trailing 20-28. However, upon return to the court, the Cougars quickly closed the gap.

The second half was more of the same, as the two teams traded the lead back and forth. With three minutes left, the Cougars went on a run to jump ahead of the Mustangs 51-44.

It looked like the end for the Mustangs but sophomore guard Dayna McCrewell revived her team's chances with two good three-point shots in a row. The effort got the Mustangs within one of the Cougars.

With a score 50-51 looming and just seconds remaining in the game, the Mustangs forced fouls in an attempt to steal the game. However, at the final buzzer, the Mustangs fell short by two points, losing to the Cougars 52-54.

Leading the Mustangs in points was sophomore Amelia Stockman with 20. She was followed by freshmen Ashley Waters and Mallory Mugnier, who notched 11 points each. McCrewell rounded out the list of top scores with 10 points.

"The girls played tough tonight," commented Mustangs Head Coach Kelly Donohue. "I am really proud of their effort."

The Mustangs will get another crack at the Cougars this Saturday in a home competition at 2:00 p.m. All home games are played at the Physical Education Center on Montgomery County Community College's Central Campus in Blue Bell, Pa.
