Game Recap: Women's Basketball Loses Second Match Up with Cougars

On Saturday the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs faced off against the Camden County College Cougars for the second time this week.

The Mustangs came out strong, building a 10-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game. The Cougars worked to recover but found themselves down 10-20 with just 5:35 left in the half.

After a time out, the Cougars adjusted play and were able to close the gap and take a 23-22 lead at half time. That momentum carried into the second half, where the visiting team continued to control the play.

Down 34-26 at the 15:00 mark, the Mustangs slowly ate away at the Cougars' lead. By the half way point, the Mustangs were within five and within the last five minutes the team started a comeback.

With 2:50 left of the clock the Mustangs pulled ahead 44-43 off two good free throws from freshman Ashley Waters. Second later, sophomore Amelia Stockman bolstered her team's lead with a made layup off a center-court steal.

It looked like the Mustangs had the game in the bag when they sunk another two-pointer with just seconds left on the clock. However, the Cougars were able to tie it up and pull ahead off foul shots, ultimately winning 50-48.

Mallory Mugnier led the Mustangs offensively with 16 points, followed by sophomore Dayna McCrewell with 10. Waters and Stockman also contributed offensively with nine and seven points respectively.

McCrewel and Stockman tallied seven rebounds each, while Waters and teammate Danielle Lillo grabbed five apiece.

The Mustangs will play their next game at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at Atlantic Cape Community College.
