Game Recap: Mustangs lose to DII Oaks

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's basketball team lost to the NJCAA Division II Oaks of Salem Community College Thursday night.

In the team's last game of the Fall semester, the Mustangs took an impressive 11-0 opening lead over their Division II opponent. After five minutes of play the Oaks broke onto the board with a three point shot and by the 10:00 mark were able to catch up with the Mustangs. 

The Mustangs held a slight lead over the Oaks for the majority of the half, until the Oaks pulled ahead 20-19 with just over three minutes remaining. The Mustangs struggled to earn back the lead but could not and went into half time trailing the Oaks 23-25.

In the second half the Mustangs tied up the score off free throws but were quickly knocked down as the Oaks ran up a double digit lead by the 10:43 mark. Despite a good showing, the Mustangs were unable to regain the lead before the final buzzer, ultimately losing 62-69.

For the Mustangs Dayna McCrewell led the team with a resounding double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Amelia Stockman followed with 12 points and Mallory Mugnier rounded out the top scoring unit with eight. Danielle Lillo came up big for the team with 11 rebounds.
