Think Pink Day Scheduled for Saturday February 9th

Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's basketball team will join NCAA and NJCAA women's basketball programs across the country in the annual "Think Pink" campaign against breast cancer this February.

Since the basketball program's inception in 2009, the Mustangs have raised a total of $2,500 through the sale of pink awareness bracelets and the collection of donations. This year the team has joined forces with Montgomery County Community College's Student Leadership, in an effort to raise at least $700 selling pink Mustangs bandanas. If the team meets its goal, the cumulative total amount raised will equal over $3,000 in just five years.

A portion of the proceeds collected each year benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC), an international nonprofit breast cancer education and support organization based in Montgomery County.

Mustangs Head Coach Kelly Donohue first got the team involved in the "Think Pink" campaign in 2008-2009 season.

"I wanted the team to be involved in a community project that everyone could relate to. Most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, so it made sense for us to participate," she said.

In order to raise funds for the campaign, each player was given bandanas to sell to friends and family members. Bandanas were also sold at basketball games throughout January and will be available on Think Pink Day, hosted at Montgomery County Community College's Central Campus in Blue Bell on Saturday Feb. 9, 2013.

Think Pink Night will feature breast cancer awareness and screening information, along with a variety of ways to donate to the team's cause.

Players and coaches from the team will present Vicki Klopp, Development Assistant for Living Beyond Breast Cancer, with a check during half-time of the Mustangs' Feb. 9th game against Luzerne County Community College.
