Game Recap: Trailblazers Sneak by Mustangs

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's basketball team lost a tough-fought match 53-58 to the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College Tuesday night.

The game started off with a strong showing by the Mustangs, who kept pace with the Trailblazers to end the first half tied up at 26-26. In the second half the Trailblazers pulled away by nine points just five minutes into the period. The Mustangs made up the deficit a few times but could not clench the win. With just minutes left the Trailblazers pulled away for good to win the game 58-53.

Despite the loss, the evening was one of celebration for the Mustangs. The game was dedicated to breast cancer research, as the team's annual Think Pink Night. During the months of January and Febrary, the Mustangs collected funds for breast cancer research and worked to raise awareness about breast cancer. The Mustangs managed to collect over $800 to donate to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. The team sold pink Mustangs bandanas and wore pink during the game.

The contest was also the last home game for the Mustangs and designated as Sophomore Night. Sophomores from both the Mustangs and the Trailblazers were honored with flowers before the game. Sophomores Amelia Stockman and Dayna McCrewell shined in the contest. Stockman notched 13 points, seven rebounds and seven steals while McCrewell eight points, 14 rebounds and five steals.

McCrewell has accumulated 423 rebounds this year and hopes to hit 500 career rebounds before the end of the season. Last year McCrewell was 17th in the nation for rebounds per game and this year she is currently ranked 15th in the nation.

Also contributing to the win was freshman Mallory Mugnier with a stellar performance. Mugnier racked up 27 points and seven steals in the effort.
