Game Recap: Centurions Top Mustangs 55-48

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's basketball team lost a tight game to the Centurions of Bucks County Community College Tuesday.

The Centurions shot out to a 10-3 lead over the Mustangs and kept the spread for most of the first half. With 2:09 left before halftime the Mustangs found themselves down 13-23. Freshman Tiasia Fields was fouled on a missed three point shot, but earned two of the three points back in free throws.

The play ignited teammate Morgan Sauermann, who went on a late-period run, making two lay ups and three free throws in under 90 seconds, to give the Mustangs seven unanswered points. The effort brought the Mustangs within one point of the Centurions with 25 seconds left on the clock.

The Centurions powered down the court in an attempt to regain control but their shot was blocked by first year player Kendall Gazzo. Fields then stole the ball off the rebounds and made a layup with four seconds remaining to put the Mustangs ahead by one.

Coming out of the locker room down 23-24, the Centurions burst onto the court with six unanswered points. The Mustangs fought back, tying up the game 29-all at 16:00 with a layup from freshman Angelina Sirak. However, the Mustangs could not overpower the Centurions who rallied for a 14-point run to boast a 43-29 lead by the half way mark.

The Mustangs slowly chipped away at that 14 point lead, but only got within seven by the closing buzzer. The final score resulted in a 48-55 loss for the Mustangs.

Next the Mustangs will host the Ocean County College Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 5th.
