Game Recap: Women's Basketball Tops Phantoms

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women's basketball team defeated the Delaware County Community College Phantoms 58-56 Thursday night.

From the onset the game was a close battle. Aside from a few runs from both teams, the score remained close for most of the match. The lead traded hands a number of times as the Mustangs and the Phantoms battles for control of the game.

At half time the Mustangs were down by one point at a score of 28-29. However, in the second half, the team managed to outscore the Phantoms by three points, earning a 30-27 advantage in the latter part of play. The result was a hard-fought and well-earned 58-56 victory for the Mustangs.

Bryanna Lacey and Jiana Clark led the Mustangs in all around outstanding performances. Lacey racked up 19 points, seven steals and six rebounds while Clark contributed a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds and also tacked on four steals. On offense Chloe Long hit tremendous shots for her team, bucketing five of six field goal attempts, three of which were dead on three-point shots.

"The team did a great job staying focused on offense, but it was our defense that won us the game," noted Mustangs Head Coach Kelly Dunbar. "As a group we accumulated 13 steals, the biggest of which was Bryanna's steal with 10 seconds left on the clock. That play positioned us to be able to win the game."

Next the Mustangs will travel to Bucks County Community College on Tuesday Feb. 4 for a 5:00 p.m. game against the Centurions.
