Recap: Offense Sputters In Loss to Lady Bulldogs

PARAMUS, NJ - Looking to win its second in a row, the women's basketball team was stopped in its tracks Saturday afternoon, falling 63-40 to the Lady Bulldogs of Bergen Community College in Region XIX action.

Montgomery's offense, which exploded for 100 points in a win over CCP Tuesday night, sputtered against a tough Bergen squad.

Jessica Spano, who logged her fifth double-double of the season against CCP, was held to just one basket on nine shots in 20 minutes of action. She also received a technical foul. Her teammates struggled mightily as well. Anna Morgan converted just one of her 12 field goal attempts, while Linda Sobeck registered six points.

"We just couldn't get our shots to fall," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Francine Roseman. "Bergen's defense kept our shooters in check and our inability to make shots prevented us from establishing any sort of rhythm."

Naomi Jasienski came off the bench to lead the Mustangs with a season-high 12 points, while Alison Henning added 11 points and four steals.

As a team the Mustangs pulled down 53 rebounds, with Morgan (10) and Sobeck (9) combining for 19 of them.

Stephanie Dowd and Kristin Forsstrom led the Lady Bulldogs with 24 and 16 points, respectively.

Bergen connected on 27 of its 68 shots, compared to Montgomery's 15 of 80. Both teams converted just two shots from beyond the arc, while Bergen shot slightly better from the foul line. The Mustangs turned the ball over 24 times.

"Bergen took it to us today," Roseman said. "We have a week to get ready for another tough GSAC foe."

The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Feb. 6 when it travels to Ocean County College for an 11 am tip-off.
