Recap: Henning Hits 200-Point Mark As Women Top Luzerne

NANTICOKE, Pa. - First-year player Alison Henning tied her season high with 24 points to reach 200 for the season while leading the visiting Mustangs to a 69-22 win over the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College in the season finale for both teams Saturday.

Jessica Spano placed in double figures for the fifth time in the last six contests and recorded her seventh double-double of the season, while Anna Morgan scored in double figures and matched her season high with five steals.

Montgomery notched its fifth victory to close out the 2015-16 on a positive note, and with Saturday's result, finished a straight-up 5-5 versus EPAC opponents.

"It was nice to see the team close out the year with a win," said Coach Francine Roseman. "And helping Ali get the points she needed was icing on the cake and a testament to how these young ladies grew throughout the season despite game-in, game-out adversity."

No doubt Henning's milestone was a rallying point for the team as she connected on 10 of 21 field goals, including three of her team's four three-pointers.

Points were hard to come by early though as the two teams combined for just eight points in the first quarter. However, the Mustangs took control over the next two frames, outscoring the home team by 20 points. Montgomery closed out the game with 28 fourth-quarter points to secure the win and cap off a special day for Henning, who scored two dozen points for the second time in her last five games.

Morgan finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Spano scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Hiba Elrhanjaoui collected a team-leading 12 rebounds to go along with eight points. Marisa Christensen added eight points and Naomi Jasienski finished with six points.

As a team, Montgomery made 30 of its 72 shots. Luzerne converted eight of its 45 attempts. Bailey Taylor led the Trailblazers with 10 points.

Except for Christensen, the Mustangs hope to have most -- if not all -- of these players back next season.

"I am very proud of these young ladies," Roseman said. "We have a good nucleus in place that has laid the foundation for next season."
