Recap: Spano, Mustangs Cruise Past Colonials

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Jessica Spano scored a season-high 25 points while recording her second straight double-double to lead the visiting Mustangs past the Colonials of Community College of Philadelphia, 65-29, in Region XIX action Tuesday evening.

Alison Henning added a season-high 16 points and Linda Sobeck recorded 11 of her team's 31 steals as Montgomery earned its second consecutive victory and third in its last four contests.

The Mustangs led 16-6 after the opening quarter and stretched it to 46-13 by overwhelming the Colonials over the next two frames.

For the second straight game, Spano topped the 20-point mark, finishing 12 of 23 from the field. She also grabbed 12 rebounds and 7 steals. Through eight games, Spano is tied for 7th among NJCAA Division III players with 141 points.

Hiba Elrhanjaoui pulled down 10 rebounds while Sobeck and Emma Hagel tallied 6 and 4, respectively, as the visiting Mustangs finished with 43 on the night.

Sobeck and Marisa Christensen blocked a combined 7 shots, and as a team, the Mustangs finished with 13 rejections.

With the victory Montgomery improves to 3-5 overall and in Region XIX and 3-2 in EPAC play.

"The ladies have certainly gained some confidence over the last four outings," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Francine Roseman. "Hopefully we can build on our recent success following the break and have a good month of December."

Following the Thanksgiving break the women play at Camden County College (1-3) on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in a 5 pm tip-off.
