Women's Basketball: Celebrate Sophomores

This evening on Thursday, Feb. 16th, Montgomery County Community College was pleased to hold their Sophomore Night. It was a very special occasion as the athletic program continues to grow, making initiatives to recruit committed student athletes every year. Prior to the start of the men's and women's games, student athletes were recognized for their participation of 2 years in the intercollegiate basketball program. They were escorted to half court and congratulated after being individually announced. The Athletic Department is proud and thankful to have had the dedication and support from these student athletes, as they have represented and supported our athletic program immensely.

Four sophomores were announced in tonight's senior night. They will be missed and we wish them luck in their future endeavors post-Montco. 

The Mustangs' point guard, Alison Henning, also called Ali, was escorted by her father Kevin Henning. She has started every game, putting up 183 points total this season. Her hobbies beyond playing basketball for the Mustangs include other sports like softball and soccer. Her most memorable moment from the season is taking a lot of charges.  Post-Montco she plans on playing soccer at Del Valley while pursuing a major in business. What she will miss most is playing on the team with her friends.

Hiba Elrahanjaoui, otherwise known as Hiba or Giggles plays forward for the Mustangs. She was escorted by Coach Mark. While attending Montco, she is working towards her associates in Liberal Studies. She has started in 10 games for this season and has had 7 blocks. Her most memorable moment was passing the ball to the opposing team, but managing to steal it back. Post-Montco she will transfer to Temple with an interest in playing volleyball.

Linda Sobeck, also nicknamed Linny was escorted by her father Ed Sobeck tonight. She plays as both a guard and forward for the Mustangs. She will miss being a part of the Mustangs Athletics most, as she enjoyed playing soccer and volleyball too. Her most memorable moment from this season is when she made a hook shot with her eyes closed and coach reacting by dropping his jaw. After Montco, Linda plans on attending Penn State Abington, continuing to play basketball and softball there.

Anna Morgan plays forward for the Mustangs. Starting 8 games this season, Anna has contributed 54 points, 9 steals, and 5 blocks. She is a great contribution to the Mustangs Athletics as she has also played on the Volleyball team. Her most memorable moment was making a no look reverse lay-up. After Montco, she intends on attending Temple and throwing javelin for them. However, like most of the sophomores, she will miss her teammates greatly.
