Game Recap: Volleyball Loses to Northampton

The Mustangs volleyball team was handed a hard-fought loss Thursday evening, losing to the rival Spartans of Northampton Community College in three sets.

Game scores were 24-26, 13-25, and 14-25.

Mustangs Head Coach Misti Volpe said of the evening, "Our girls came out very strong, determined to give everything they had. But Northampton was able to push past us i nthe first set, and then managed to maintain their momentum throughout the rest of the match."

The Msutangs put up 87 attack attempts for the evening but the Spartans defense kept them at bay, allowing just 15 kills. Kill leaders for the Mustangs were freshman Kendall Gazzo with five and freshman Liz Herezi with four. Freshman Alex Griffin led the Mustangs in digs, collecting 11 of the team's total 39. Sophomore libero Kelsey Kowalick added five to that effort, along with Gazzo and sophomore Nikki Reichert who each added four.

The Mustangs are determined to not let the loss set them back in their journey to the NJCAA Region 19 playoffs. "We're determined to excel at the rest of our regular season games," said Volpe. "We want to see Northampton again in the post-season."
