Game Recap: Volleyball Downs DII Hawks

The Mustangs volleyball team came away with a big win Monday night, facing off against the NJCAA Division II Delaware Tech: Terry Campus Hawks in Dover, De. The Mustangs earned a three-set victory over the Hawks, with game scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-10.

Defensively the effort was intense and spread across the board with every player contributing to the Mustangs' totals.  The team as a whole collected 26 digs and dug at an 84% efficiency.  Freshman Kendall Gazzo led on defense with eight total digs, sophomore Nikki Reichert trailed with six and both Liz Herezi and Kelsey Kowalick each contributed four.  Kowalick also led in serve-receive patterns passing 10 balls with a 100% efficiency.

Offensively the team collected a total of 14 aces, six being from the efforts of Herezi and three each from Niki Gass and Chelsea Knowles.

"Our girls are very aggressive when serving," commented Mustangs Head Coach Misti Volpe. "They put pace and tempo on their serves and place them strategically on the court to maximize our potential for aces."

The team was led in kills by Herezi who put away 12 balls for a .391 efficiency.  Gazzo followed with five and Griffin added four.  As a whole the Mustangs collected 28 kills for the evening.

The Mustangs travel to Jenkintown Tuesday to compete against the Manor College Blue Jays, a NJCAA Division III Region 19 competition and also an EPAC match.
