Game Recap: Volleyball Knocks Down Blue Jays

The Mustangs volleyball team squared off against the Manor College Blue Jays Tuesday evening in Jenkintown and came away with a quick three-set win. The Mustangs were able to keep the Blue Jays under 10 points in each set, earning set scores of 25-9, 25-8 and 25-2.

As a whole the Mustangs finished the match with a .600 hitting average. Freshmen Kendall Gazzo and Liz Herezi each collected six kills for the evening and Marissa Raimondi and Niki Gass each chipped in four. Jen Casatelli led the charge collecting 14 assists.

"The offensive arsenal the girls played with for the evening was one of the best we've seen so far this season" said Mustangs Head Coach Misti Volpe.  "This really showcased the potential we have as a team to finish out our conference play."

The Mustangs also finished with one of their best aces-per-game average so far this season at 10.33 aces.  Freshman Alex Griffin led with 10 aces, serving 17 straight points in the third game. Gazzo followed with seven and Chelsea Knowles had six.

Defensively the team was led by Herezi who dug five of the team's 13 total digs.  The Mustangs dug at 100% efficiency for the night.

Gazzo and sophomore libero Kelsey Kowalick tied in service reception efforts, passing six perfect balls apiece.

The Mustangs will host their first annual alumni game Thursday evening October 11. The event will also include the unveiling of the 2010 and 2011 conference championship banners. Family and Friends are invited to attend and refreshments will be served after the event.
