Volleyball's Match Versus Bucks Comes Right Down to the Wire

Montgomery versus Bucks is a matchup that Mustang fans are all too familiar with. The counties they represent are right next door to each other and the schools themselves are only 25 miles apart. This matchup between the Mustang and the Centurion volleyball teams will also be a match that fans won't forget.

These two teams met earlier in the season in a tri-match at Harrisburg Area Community College. That match saw Bucks running away with a 3-0 win. However, the Mustangs were greatly improved heading into Thursday's match at Bucks.

Their improvement showed, as they grabbed the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-20. Both sets were close, with the Mustangs just narrowly edging the Centurions. Miljana Vukoslavovic (FR, Serbia) emerged as a leader for the Mustangs. She had eight kills and 16 digs in the first two sets alone, leading both the defense and the offense for Montgomery.

However, Bucks swung the match around. They were able to win both the third and the fourth sets, 25-16 and 25-19. The match would come down to a final, 15 point, deciding set. Bucks seemed to have all the momentum after winning the previous two sets.

One concept that the Mustangs seem to be getting better and better at with each match is performing in clutch time. Vukoslavovic would amass another 15 digs in the final set alone, more than any other athlete in any other set. Laura Reeser (SO, Hatfield) set the Mustangs up with four assists.

Despite their best effors, the match was tied at 14-14. All volleyball sets are win-by-two at the NJCAA level, so the Mustangs needed to win two points in a row in order to take the match. True to form all season, they did just that, taking the final set 16-14. The Mustangs avenged their 3-0 loss from earlier in the season in a dramatic fashion.

This improves their record to 7-3 overall and 7-2 in the EPAC. They'll be back home Thursday, when they face Manor college at 7:00pm. Manor and Montgomery met previously this season at Manor. That match ended with a 3-0 win for the Mustangs.
