Volleyball Beats Manor at Home

Volleyball Beats Manor at Home

Volleyball began their 2018 season with a 3-0 sweep of Manor College in September. At that point, Montgomery was certainly the underdog, especially since they were only returning one starter and had a first-year head coach. That day, former Manor assistant and current Montgomery head coach pushed his team to an upset. This time however, Montgomery came in with the better record and, having already beaten the Blue Jays once, were favored to win the match. It was time for the team to show what they could do when they were the favorite.

Manor was certainly ready for to pay the Mustangs back. The first set was much closer than their last match, leading to a 16-16 score. From there, Manor pulled away and took the first set 25-22. Montgomery had 9 total errors in the set, which contributed to their rough start.

The Mustangs needed a wake-up call and that call came in the form of freshmen Molly McCarthy (Souderton). McCarthy recorded five kills in the second set as the Mustangs dominated the Blue Jays, 25-12. Gerasimina Zormpa (FR, Greece) also recorded four of her five aces in the second set during her first starting performance for the Mustangs.

Montgomery carried their momentum into the third set. This time, it was Miljana Vukoslavovic (FR, Serbia) who caught fire, grabbing four kills on five attempts and eight digs. The Mustangs would end the set with a 25-15 win.

However, Manor would not go away easily. They battled back and took an early lead in the fourth set. It wasn't too long before Montgomery found their footing though, eventually tying the game at 19-19. From there, Montgomery took over and finished the Blue Jays off, 25-22 in the set and 3-1 in the match. The Mustangs had a great overall performance in the fourth set, with five different Mustangs having at least one kill and one attempt.

Head coach Rob Childs completes the season sweep over his former team, as the Mustangs improve to 8-3 (6-2 in conference). Their next match will be a tri-match at home against Lehigh Carbon and Community College of Philadelphia on Saturday.
