Volleyball Makes it to Final Four

Volleyball traveled to Brookdale Community College on Saturday for the first round of the Region XIX Playoffs. The Mustangs had a similar overall and Region XIX record as the Jersey Blues, but a five set loss earlier in the season gave Brookdale the four seed and left Montco with the five seed and an away game.

The Mustangs weren't daunted though and embraced the underdog mentality. The first set was a grueling contest, with the Mustangs just pulling ahead late, thanks to five kills from Julia Kuneck (FR, John Hallahan). Kuneck would finish the match with a team leading 13 kills.

The second set was just as difficult as the first. Again, the Mustangs just barely pulled out a 25-22 win. With the score at 2-0 and almost no momentum left on the Brookdale side, the Mustangs cruised to a 25-13 thrid set and 3-0 match win.

The sweep is the first playoff win of Head Coach Rob Childs' career at Montco. The Mustangs now have 11 sweeps on the season, with this match being their most impressive.

Now the Mustangs will travel to Bucks County Community College for the Bracket A Championship match. Harrisburg Area Community College is their opponent. HACC is the #1 seed in the region and is the #6 ranked team in the entire country for NJCAA Division III. The two times these teams met this season, HACC walked away with a 3-0 win.

If the Mustangs can grab another upset, then they'll win a spot in the NJCAA Division III National Championship in Rochester, Minnesota. If they lose, their season will be over. The stakes couldn't be higher and the Mustangs are ready for the challenge.
